Vilnius district ready to take in refugees from Ukraine

During this difficult time for Ukraine and its people, Vilnius district municipality is able to take in refugees from the war-torn Ukraine.

At this moment, the Vilnius District family and child welfare center is ready to receive about 70 children from Ukraine. It is also continuing to look for suitable facilities for refugees to settle in.

Vilnius district is ready to provide all kinds of assistance to people affected by the war in Ukraine. “We have great support for all Ukrainians. The Vilnius district family and child welfare center is already ready to receive refugees. The most important thing today is real help for the Ukrainian people. Thank you to all those involved in the initiatives of support and action. The most important thing is to unite all of us for a common goal – to help the Ukrainian people. We are currently working to provide real comprehensive assistance and support not with words, but with deeds”, – says Mayor Marija Rekst.

After the war in Ukraine had begun, Vilnius district municipality cancels all planned Užgavėnės celebrations and other events. In a sign of solidarity with Ukraine, the Ukrainian flag was displayed in Vilnius district municipality. Letters of support and solidarity have been sent to the long-term cooperation partners of the Vilnius district in Ukraine, in which we informed our partners that the municipality is prepared to provide all kinds of assistance and offer to accommodate refugees from Ukraine.

Also on March the 2nd at 1 p.m. in Church of St. Peter and St. Paul (Antakalnio St. 1, Vilnius) will host a Mass (in Polish language) dedicated to praying for peace and tranquility in Ukraine and around the world.

We thank the residents of Vilnius district for their concern and solidarity with the Ukrainian people. We receive calls with offers of accommodation, initiatives and support. All incoming information is being recorded and evaluated.
